Who am I?
I'm a middle aged (just shy of 50) guy who decided a few years ago to lose weight, get back in shape, and take up running. I've been a hiker, biker, and skier since college, and I dabbled in running but it never clicked. I simply told myself that I don't have a runner's body so it would never work. Since then I've learned that everyone can run, and while I don't think I'll win too many age groups I can improve my times and go further.
In winter I'm a skier first, runner second. If I could I would ski every weekend, backcountry if possible or lift served if needed. Since I live near Boston I ski mainly in VT, NH, and ME, but my sister bought a ski house up near Gore in NY so I hit there at least once a year. There have also been trips to CA, UT, WA, CO, Switzerland, Germany, and Japan. I learned to Alpine ski starting when I was 6, but was introduced to Telemark in college and didn't look back. I teach telemark and backcountry skiing with the Appalachian Mountain Club Boston chapter Ski Committee a few times a year and try to lead at least one backcountry trip each winter.
